From Apartheid To Xenophobia- South Africa's Injustice Continues

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

South Africa has been witnessing a wave of xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals all over the country. These acts of violence have left more than 10 000 foreign immigrants seeking refuge in police stations, shelters and other places of safety whilst more than 23 lives have been lost.

SA HRC chief executive Tseliso Thipanye stated that the sudden outburst was a result of pent up anger and animosity which has been lying dormant within South African citizens for years. Increased frustration at poverty, lack of resources and the large influx of immigrants into the country lately has also played a role in these attacks.

This wave of destruction has spread from the township areas in Gauteng such as Thembisa ,Diepsloot,Alexander and has now reached Durban where acts of violence have been reported in areas such as Glenwood, Umbilo, Tongaat and Isipingo amongst others.

Hospice Awareness Week

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend
Highway Hospice believes that every person with a terminal illness deserves quality of life during whatever time they have left and that a dignified death is the right of every human being.

Many people mistakenly think that hospice is just a building but this is not so. Highway Hospice is a specialised programme of care in which the emphasis is not on adding days to life but on adding life to days. In order to better meet the needs of the community we increased the focus of our activities in home based care. There is an ever increasing number of AIDS patients who, because of their illness, are finding it more and more difficult to attend a clinic or hospital and who currently have to travel for miles before getting help.

These people are often left to die in appalling conditions, without medication and sometimes food and shelter. We cover the majority of the greater Durban area from Umhlanga to Prospecton and Cato Ridge inland.
